  1. Raccoon City isn't the sort of game that will win awards – it's too crude around the edges in certain respects – and it's important to bear in mind that information technology'south all-time experienced multiplayer rather than solo. But it's neat fun and adds a fresh spin to a key fourth dimension and place in the Resident Evil universe. It volition bring a smile, in particular, to those who think Resident Evils 2 and three with fondness.

[Y]ou're only immune to customise and upgrade the grapheme you lot're controlling. You can determine who'll be in your squad, merely you tin can't tell them what guns and abilities to use. In fact, AI-controlled squadmates don't even have abilities. They're just grunts with guns and deed with all the intelligence of tactical sensation of action movie cannon-fodder, and it affects your offensive options. [April 2012, p.62]

  3. For the large function, whether offline or on, Functioning RC manages to successfully inject old skool Resi amuse into an enjoyably frenetic shooter. If the thought of battling rooms full of stretchy-tongued monstrosities with able-bodied controls in iconic surround has your Umbrella sense tingling, this is well worth a look.

  4. The grenades have an historic period to equip and throw. Considering that chucking a grenade the moment earlier I dice has been the only thing to get me shut to a positive kill / death ratio through the years, this is a major concern.

  5. It'due south a shame because Raccoon City is not entirely unpalatable, nigh of its flaws seem as though they could take been ironed out, merely it'due south doubtful whether information technology can seriously compete on its own merits with comparable titles currently on offer.

  6. This game is a decent TPS if played online. It lacks quality though, and the terrible AI makes the singleplayer campaign a real torture. Play it with friends, information technology'south really the only way to enjoy it.

A blasphemous not-catechism story that kills off key players will tickle franchise fans, but it's more often than not hollow shooting trading on the Resi name. [May 2012, p.102]

  8. Official PlayStation Magazine Benelux

    Apr 2, 2012

Performance Raccoon City is an endless chain of bland and repetitive shootouts filled to the brink with zombies who are naught more than lambs to the slaughter. Rooms seem to be randomly filled corpses, Lickers and commandos, all besides dumb to even tie their own shoes. [April 2012, p.72]

  9. Playstation: The Official Magazine (U.s.a.)

    Apr iii, 2012

It'due south a functional squad shooter, simply it's 1 that'southward probably best suited for series diehards. [May 2012, p.82]

  10. REORC is a fan service school example in disappointment. An average TPS where coop gameplay own't that satisfying, and probably non worthy of the Resident Evil franchise, even though some fun moments may occur.

  11. By no means a bad game. The adventure to face off against Resident Evil favourites such equally Nemesis is a really interesting idea, and the abiding threat of zombies will e'er have you on edge. Maxim that, I can see the multiplayer modes becoming repetitive fairly quickly. Whilst differing slightly, the modes on offering are too similar, and all play out on the same handful of maps.

  12. Umbrella may have filled Raccoon City with horrific creatures, but SlantSix has tainted the fabled town in its own way. Information technology's hard recommending a render to Raccoon when y'all take to suffer buggy AI, clunky gameplay, and terrible glitches similar disappearing floors. Yes, on more than 1 occasion my friends and I had to ditch whole missions because nosotros kept falling into an empty void.

  13. This new product from Slant Six was supposed to be a success, but it fails. There are some proficient and interesting ideas simply its implementation information technology'due south not the best especially when combined with mistakes and poor decisions that affect the gameplay.

  14. Raccoon City isn't really Resident Evil as we know information technology, then. It'due south trying to be something else, which is fine in theory, merely it doesn't quite manage to pull it off. The campaign is sloppy, repetitive and devoid of narrative intrigue. When playing equally a group of four it'south fun to the aforementioned extent that near co-op games are, simply at that place are much amend alternatives waiting to have your difficult-earned greenbacks.

  15. Unless you're going to play with others, Resident Evil: Functioning Raccoon City isn't worth your fourth dimension. Single player is infected with poor bogus intelligence, lack of useful feedback and abusive enemies. Rope in a couple of friends - or open up your game upward for anybody to join - and ORC improves, withal beholden to many of its problems just better for the replacement of its inadequate AI with man players to help deal with its viruses.

  16. Raccoon City is just [p]lain dull to me. There's zero here I want to return to. The game can be fun with other people, at that place are a few patented Resident Evil scares, and the controls work fine (provided you're willing to put up with some clunkiness). But everything else about it is really…I dunno, "meh."

  17. Resident Evil: Performance Raccoon Urban center lacks insight. It lacks good level design, adept shooting mechanics or a good comprehend system. Information technology tin can exist fun to relive some recognizable Resident Evil-moments with a few friends, but for no more than than half an hour. After that, you'll crave for a game with a well idea-through pattern.

  18. Maybe down the rail this game will exist patched in order to make information technology play better simply I accept a meliorate idea; go it right the first time because this reviewer will never download a patch to make a game playable, that's why I bought a console, games should piece of work every time straight out the box. This one does, barely, and that is why sadly I wouldn't bother with it.

  19. Unworthy of the Resident Evil name. Patiently waiting for Resident Evil 6 is a lot more fun than actually playing this piece of crap. Broken shooting mechanics, a terrible cover system, abysmal AI, weak level design… A proficient idea on paper, an absolute terror for y'all PlayStation 3.

  20. It'south not enough to salvage Operation Raccoon City though, which ultimately is a title that feels too rushed to warrant any great investment on the part of the histrion. That it's sold in such loftier numbers (at time of writing information technology's number one in Japan) says a lot about the strength of the Resident Evil make which, if ORC is anything to become by, is in danger of being fatally diluted.

  21. A second-rate shooter that'southward trying to hibernate its flaws under traditional Resident Evil paraphernalia, such as zombies, heroes and all the other things. A campaign of the game is pointless and without whatsoever content at all. Many of the annoying flaws exercise make your gameplay even harder and, unfortunately, many of those flaws are even in its multiplayer that might accept been different if the authors had taken it every bit their primary goal.

  22. The game just feels sloppy and unfinished. It controls poorly, looks bad, and completely misses the indicate of the Resident Evil franchise. Honestly, I wouldn't even recommend this game to Resident Evil fans. If you lot desire a meliorate co-op zombie shooter, yous should probably just go back to Left 4 Dead.

  23. The problems with the estimator AI make the single role player a chip of a task, and while the online co-op action is frantic and fun, information technology's also chaotic and defective a fleck of menstruum. There are quite a few glitches in the campaign, including zombies disappearing into scenery, or just disappearing entirely, and the set piece battles are hardly jaw-dropping.

  24. The terrible AI, the lackluster locations and the complete lack of atmosphere or memorable characters destroy what could accept been a brilliant adjunct. In the finish, Performance Raccoon City is petty more than a poor human being'southward SOCOM, and a destitute man'southward Resident Evil.

  25. Contemptuous, franchise-exploiting pump that Resi devotees should collectively ignore. [Upshot#217, p.73]

  26. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is an unfortunate addition to an otherwise keen franchise. With this beingness the 2nd of three Resident Evil games coming out this year information technology would probably be best to only skip this one entirely unless you are a diehard fan who wants to encounter every game in the series. This title had a lot of neat potential but falls flat on almost every part of its delivery and while information technology may not exercise everything incorrect what it does right is inappreciably plenty to relieve this alternate take on a great franchise.
